Pysanky Demonstration- April 12th 2014

On Saturday April 12th from 11am-12 noon I will be demonstrating pysanky at the Schoharie Free Library.  It is a free event to raise interest in the opening of the Easter Egg Museum. All profits from the Easter Egg Museum this year will be benefiting the library, which was severely damaged in Hurricane Irene.

Aunt Cathy's Collection of my Pysanky!

Aunt Cathy (AC) has the second largest collection of my pysanky! I've also photographed some of my Christmas ornament pysanky. I have to remember to remove the yolk from the top of the egg (which is harder to do) so that we can turn the eggs into ornaments.

I like elaborate borders!

This is a goose egg with deer as the main design

The other side of the same goose egg

A flower on the end of the egg where we removed the yolk

I like to make variations on this design in different colors

A chicken on the egg!

One of my few pysanky eggs done mostly in white (lots of beeswax)

Brown eggs give a rustic look, nice for the Christmas tree!

Pysanky Pictures- The ones I gave to mom

My mom has most of my pysanky in her collection. Here are some of them.

I like to draw animals on pysanky! The symbols have different meanings.

Mom likes birds and blue.

This one of the newest pysanky I've made.

This is one of the first pysanky I made

The more intricate the design, the longer it takes to make.

Another of the first pysanky- I used a lot of bright colors!

Sunflowers are a traditional Ukrainian design

This is a goose egg psyanky. It took 60 hours to make. The bigger the egg, the more time it takes (more surface to cover!)

I am most proud of my goose egg pysanky!

Pysanky Pictures

I'm creating this blog to keep track of all of my pysanky. I give most of my pysanky away, and want a way to remember everything I've made. http://www.ukrainianmuseum.org/pysanky.html is a great resource if you'd like to learn more about pysanky.https://www.ukrainiangiftshop.com/pages/art.htm is great for buying supplies.
